Argos – 32 inch telly not working.?

Just under a year ago I brought a TV from Argos, it’s now playing up. Going to return it tonight, just wondering what I may expect, will they give me another one or do you reckon they will send it away for repairs. I would like a replacement or a refund, do you think this will be likely? Am I asking too much?

    Argos are difficult when it comes to taking electrical goods back…I took a juicer back after 2 months….a piece has just come away…the manager stood there and said "We don’t have to give you a refund" I insisted….and they did….just go in with the TV, ask to see the manager…and then say politely, I bought this under a year ago and it has broken. Don’t take no for an answer…tell them it has been looked after and this is not good enough. Cash or credit…nothing else will do.

    i had a nightmare trying to change mine. Dont ring up there is no point – unplug the tv and take it to the manager at argos. tell them you either want a replacement or credit – also you will be able to get a much better tv a year on.

    Golden rule – You’re contract is with the shop. Product not of merchantable quality. Have a look at this.. http://www.opsi.gov.uk/RevisedStatutes/Acts/ukpga/1979/cukpga_19790054_en_6#pt6-l1g55 This is the law in relation to your transaction. Sale of goods act 1979 section 48b subsection 1 Demand a replacement.

    If you check ur receipt , they normally put somthing like "excluded from the moneyback guarantee" so it may be difficult to get ur money back, a replacement looks more plausible provided ur still in the warranty period

    Repairs for sure, most manufacturers policy is to have the unit inspected by a qualified repair agent. Retailers will give a retailer within the first few weeks, however complaining and demanding alot seems to get some results from some customers, but it’s really bad for the electronics industry if you skip the repair… Thats how I make money 🙂 3gigrig – "You’re contract is with the shop." – Sorry, this is not the case, it is the manufacturers responsibility to provide quality electronics and provide a warranty. Whether they indicate it a repair or replacement warranty is completely up to the manufacturer, and will be stated on either the owners manual, on a panel on the unit, or on a warranty slip provided with the unit. Ultimately, it the retailer chooses to replace the unit at their own good will, they will eventually source their own refund from the manufacturer, but this is time consuming, and is usually left to the service centre, who, by the way, is not authorised to replace the unit, it all comes back to the manufacturer.
